Parkways Foundation invests in Chicago’s parks to enrich communities through historic preservation, environmental initiatives, capital projects and youth/family programs.
Parkways Foundation was created in 1994 as an avenue to raise private
funds for projects within the Chicago Park District (CPD) for the
enrichment of the physical and cultural landscape of Chicago's neighborhoods.
Our scope includes, but is not limited to, the needs of children and
families as well as historic preservation. Parkways also works to
raise needed funds for the growth and enhancement of educational programs
and camps in our neighborhoods.
Parks impact our everyday lives more profoundly than any other
public resource. Past generations have entrusted us with a magnificent
park system that has evolved into the most extensive in the country:
a collection of more than 550 parks, 250 field houses, 9 museums,
6 golf courses, 31 miles of shoreline and more than 9,000 annual
programs.
The size, scope and vision of the CPD make it virtually impossible
to stretch taxpayer dollars to cover every priority. Working in
partnership with our board of directors,
private donors, foundations and corporations, Parkways is able to
provide support for projects that may not otherwise get funded in
a timely manner. Through philanthropy, we strive to make dreams
come true!
