GALApalooza 2010

Parkways Foundation presented the fourth Annual GALApalooza on the eve of the Lollapalooza Music Festival. Nearly 750 guests enjoyed cocktails, dining a performance by Grammy-nominated artist Hot Chip at the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park.

More than $265,000 was raised for the renovation of Moore Park and the development of innovative programming for teens at risk in the Austin neighborhood. This is the first time Parkways will support a full park renovation including a playground, a walking path, a water feature, athletic fields and basketball courts.

Parkways Foundation Buckingham Fountain 5K Fun Run and Walk

Parkways Foundation thanks all of the runners and walkers who took part in the second annual Buckingham Fountain 5K Fun Run and Walk. The Kids Dash Around the Fountain truly made this a family friendly event. Congratulations to Jane Neumann who was the winner of the 3-day general admission passes to the Lollapalooza music festival. Neiman Marcus graciously hosted the Garden Party Kick-Off for the eighth year in a row. World famous milliner Philip Treacy, presented a fashion show exclusively for Parkways members and supporters. This year's Garden Party takes place on Thursday, September 16 at The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden.

Parkways Foundation 2010 Neighborhood Parks Initiatives Announcement

Friends and supporters of Parkways Foundation gathered at the Bloomingdale’s Home & Furniture Store at Medinah Temple for a discussion on the importance of public/private partnership and to learn about new programming initiatives throughout the Chicago Park District. The featured speakers of the evening was Timothy J. Mitchell, Superintendant and CEO of the Chicago Park District and Stacey Reineking Sather, Chairman, Parkways Foundation. A special thank you to the Bloomingdales Home & Furniture Store for graciously underwriting this special evening.

2010 GALApalooza Kick-Off and Lollapalooza Check Presentation

The James Hotel graciously hosted the 2010 GALApalooza kick-off for the fourth year in a row. WXRT radio personality and GALA emcee Marty Lennartz made the big band announcement to eager guests, Grammy nominated electro-pop band Hot Chip will be performing at this year’s event. In addition, C3 Presents awarded Parkways Foundation a check for $1.9Million dollars for the proceeds from the 2009 Lollapalooza Music Festival. Sponsors of the evening included: The James Hotel, smartwater, Anheuser Busch and DJ White Shadow.

An Evening In Bloom

“An Evening in Bloom”, the Mayor’s Preview Benefit for the 2010 Flower & Garden Show, took place at Navy Pier on Friday, March 5. Guests had the opportunity to wander among the botanical displays while enjoying food and cocktails. Co-chairs for the event were Parkways Chairman Stacey Reineking Sather, Donna La Pietra and Bill Kurtis, Harry Caray's Restaurant Group president Grant DePorter, nightlife impresario Billy Dec and NBC 5 News meteorologist Ginger Zee, with Mayor and Mrs. Richard M. Daley serving as honorary chairs. The evening's proceeds benefited four of the city’s prominent charities: Parkways Foundation, Chicago Botanic Garden, Chicago Gateway Green and Friends of the Parks.

Pottery Barn Lincoln Park Grand Opening

To celebrate the opening of its 19,000-square-foot Lincoln Park location last Thursday, Pottery Barn hosted an in-store cocktail reception for over 400 prominent Chicagoans. Parkways Foundation served as the beneficiary for this event which raised $7,120 for the Camp Scholarship Fund. Co-chairs were Parkways Chairman Stacey Reineking Sather, Candace Jordan, Susanna Negovan and Jessica Lagrange.

2009 Garden Party

The seventh annual Parkways Foundation Garden Party marked the unveiling of The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden in Grant Park. Over $500,000 was raised for the Buckingham Fountain Restoration Project. The Blue Box Raffle was one of the afternoon highlights as guests were encouraged to purchase a Tiffany & Co. Gift Box for their chance to win one of three gifts from Tiffany & Co. Co-Chairs of this year’s Garden Party were Laura Barnett Sawchyn, Karen Goodyear, Susan Heisler and Alice Sabl.

Parkways Foundation Celebration Dinner

On the eve of the Garden Party, Co-Chairs Diane Kelley and Jo Ann Nathan hosted an intimate dinner in The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden to honor and thank Parkways donors. Guests were treated to a champagne reception and multi- course dinner featuring Möet and Chandon and upon departure received a Tiffany & Co. umbrella and an environmentally friendly cell phone courtesy of Motorola.

Abbott Fund Wellness Program at Broadway Armory Ribbon Cutting

In 2008, The Abbott Fund generously donated $100,000 to Parkways Foundation to establish the first wellness center program in the Rogers Park Neighborhood at the Broadway Armory which opened in June 2008. Due to its success, The Abbott Fund has donated an additional $100,000 for a second Abbott Wellness Program located in Humboldt Park as recent studies have shown obesity and diabetes as major health issues in the neighborhood. Parkways Foundation and The Chicago Park District celebrated the grand opening of the Abbott Fund Wellness Program in Humboldt Park with a family-friendly event featuring interactive games that combine the excitement of video games with aerobic exercise; fitness, dance and cooking demonstrations; and healthy snacks.

2009 GALApalooza

On the eve of the Lollapalooza music festival, over 600 guests gathered at the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park for the third annual GALApalooza benefiting Parkways Foundation. Lollapalooza founder and Parkways supporter Perry Farrell took the stage to introduce Vampire Weekend, whose self-titled album was dubbed the 10th best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone Magazine. This year’s event raised over $250,000 for the Buckingham Fountain Restoration Project and was Co-Chaired by Denise Ashurst and Courtney Pitt and Stacey Reineking Sather was the Corporate Chair.

Parkways Foundation First Annual Buckingham Fountain 5K Fun Run

Over 700 runners came out to celebrate the renovation and restoration of Chicago's iconic fountain during Parkways Foundation’s First Annual Buckingham Fountain 5K. All participants received an American Apparel Buckingham Fountain T-Shirt, Charter One Nylon Race Bag and were entered into a raffle to win two three-day general admission Lollapalooza passes. Generous sponsors of the run included Charter One, Fleet Feet Sports, vitaminwater10, Chicago Magazine and 93XRT.

GALApalooza Kick Off 2009

Parkways Foundation kicked-off the third annual GALApalooza with a cocktail party at The James Hotel. Guests enjoyed sounds by DJ White Shadow and sipped Tito’s Vodka cocktails. The highlight of the evening was the band announcement - Vampire Weekend will headline GALApalooza and Chicago’s own Hey Champ will open. Jayve Montgomery spoke about the Inferno Mobile Recording studio and the importance of self-expression among youth. Funds from this year’s GALApalooza will go towards expanding the program.

Washington Park Playground Dedication Ceremony
Date: 10/18/2008
Mayor Richard M. Daley and Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners President Gery Chico joined Alderman Willie Cochran and community members to dedicate the new state-of-the-art playground at Washington Park, 5531 S. Martin Luther King Dr. Parkways Foundation, raised more than $700,000 in private funds to build the playground which has soft surfacing and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to be accessible to children with disabilities. The playground also pays homage to the rich cultural history of the Bronzeville community through a timeline that highlights significant contributors and events in the neighborhood. Parkways and the Park District held numerous meetings with community leaders and artists to ensure that the playground met the neighborhood's needs and reflected its history.

Dancing Under the Stars

The second annual Dancing Under the Stars Gala raised over $50,000 for Special Recreation Programs in the Chicago Park District which provides the disabled community the opportunity to partake in sports and cultural programming. The evening began with a cocktail reception and dancing to Ken Arlen's Matt Reed Band. After dinner, Ballroom Dancers from Chicago Dance entertained guests with a variety of performances. Former CBS 2 Chicago News Anchor served as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Her husband, Jay Levine, was the Guest Auctioneer.

The Tiffany & Co Foundation Celebration Garden Press Conference

A press conference was held in Grant Park to announce The Tiffany & Co. Foundation has awarded Parkways Foundation $1,250,000 grant for the creation of "The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden." In attendance were First Lady Maggie Daley, Fernanda Kellogg, President of The Tiffany & Co. Foundation; Denise Stefan, President of Parkways Foundation; Tim Mitchell, Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO and Gery Chico, President of the Park District Board of Commissioners. Grant Park's South Rose Garden will be transformed into a four-season formal garden and event space adjacent to Buckingham Fountain. The Garden is scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2009.

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation awarded a $1,250,000 grant to Parkways for the creation of “The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Celebration Garden” in Grant Park. The south rose garden was transformed into a four season formal garden and event space adjacent to Buckingham Fountain which opened in September 2009. Rental fees for the garden will go directly to Parkways Foundation which in turn be utilized for the ongoing annual maintenance of the new garden space. GALApalooza 2008

Guests were treated to an exclusive sneak preview of the transformation of Grant Park into the Lollapalooza venue in a lounge-like atmosphere during the second annual GALApalooza held at the Petrillo Band Shell. This year's event experienced a remarkable growth with over 500 in attendance and proceeds going to Buckingham Fountain Restoration project. The highlight of the evening was Lollapalooza featured band Sharon Jones and the Dap-kings performance. The evening also included performances by Circ-Esteem, an after school program that teaches circus skills to youth that is partnering with the Chicago Park District through Parkways Funding and DJ Bald Eagle who provided a musical backdrop for guests to enjoy. Perry Ferrell, founder of Lollapalooza along with emcee Marty Lennartz from WXRT were special guests at this year's GALApalooza.

Abbott Wellness Center Ribbon Cutting

Abbott Fund, the corporate philanthropic partner of Abbott Laboratories, a broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, granted $100,000 to Parkways Foundation for the creation of a new Abbott Wellness Center at Broadway Armory in the Rogers Park neighborhood as part a of a city-wide effort to combat high obesity rates. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the center which provides the community with multifaceted nutrition and fitness programming that includes a full-day, year-round programming of fitness classes, fitness arcading, interactive related fitness equipment and a walking club.

Garden Party 2008

Garden Party 2008 - June 19, 2008 Over 650 guests attended the 6th annual Garden Party held at Northerly island which raised a record $300,000. Proceeds from this year's event went toward completing the $1 million state of the art artificial turf soccer field in McKinley Park, Chicago's first neighborhood park. The new field will be equipped with lights, risers, team benches, and new turf-promoting activities, which will go beyond soccer, encouraging a sense of community and making it the ultimate destination in the neighborhood for families and friends to come together. An additional campaign was launched for the Parkways Youth Programs Fund.

Garden Party Kick Off

Neiman Marcus hosted a fashion show to kick-off the 6th annual Garden Party at their Michigan Avenue store in the Zodiac Restaurant. During the event the Garden Party theme was announced as Celebrating the 1933-34 Chicago's World's Fair, A Century of Progress which invoked art-deco style, color and décor. In keeping with the theme, the kick off festivities included a special St-Germain liqueur champagne cocktail, a drink inspired by the art deco period. Attendees were given a preview of the Garden Party raffle with the opportunity win a hat by Philip Treacy, one of the world's foremost hat designers who was commissioned to design hats for the wedding of the Prince of Wales to the Duchess of Cornwall.

Parkways Foundation kicked-off GALApalooza with a cocktail party at The James hotel. After much anticipation, it was announced that Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings would be the headline entertainment. Lollapalooza founder and Parkways supporter Perry Ferrell spoke to guests about the importance of Chicago's Parks and reaffirmed his commitment to give back to the city.
